The words in this book carry a weight behind them—you’ll realize this as you’re reading it; that what you’re holding in your hands is just as important as it is entertaining. J.N. Kirchner has carefully painted an image of a not-too-far-off future that will instill a bevy of mixed feelings as you realize just how prophetic it might actually be.

In addition to drastic developments in society, Kirchner also explores the altruist and malevolent duality inherent in human nature—whether globally in humanity or scaled-down within interpersonal relationships—and reminds us that it’s critical to remember both characteristics are always equally present.

The language Kirchner uses is not over-embellished, but is carefully considered, making it an accessible read without compromising his themes and ideas. Steady pacing in the first half of the novel forms strong reader/character relationships, while the plot speeds up and intensifies with the latter half. Plenty of surprises and a variety of characters and new environments will keep the book glued to your hands until the very last page. The curiosity and suspense felt while you’re reading will remain on the surface of your mind for days, but the greater message will surreptitiously permeate and stay with you for far longer.
